The Public Information & Media Manager plans, coordinates and manages the COG’s public information program. Work involves directing and evaluating the research, writing, editing, and production of information materials for public and media release and for use by TCOG, the public, media outlets, and member jurisdictions. Works under minimal supervision, with extensive latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.


  1. Reports to: Executive Director
  2. Other: Collaborate with COG staff; federal, state, and local agencies and officials; COG Governing Body; Executive Director; media, and the general public.


The essential duties of this position include but are not limited to the following performance measures:

  1. Serves as the primary liaison with the media/public/member jurisdictions and coordinates interactions/meetings with same;
  2. Develops and maintains effective working relationships with the media and the public;
  3. Develops guidelines for effective and proper dissemination of information;
  4. Disseminates information to the public and media concerning the COG’s programs, policies & issues, and effectively dispositions public information requests;
  5. Prepares and delivers information (press releases, brochures, speeches, fact sheets) about TCOG activities, programs, and accomplishments;
  6. Leads in shaping and/or influencing the public’s perception of TCOG;
  7. Designs, develops, & implements content & communication strategies and programs, including the development and maintenance of TCOG’s website and social media accounts;
  8. Develops style guide and acts as brand manager for TCOG including Web/social media content and content strategies;
  9. Creates graphics for and designs publications, marketing materials, and website;
  10. Coordinates special meetings and events;
  11. Serves as agency representative by attending and presenting at committee and public meetings and speaking on behalf of the organization;
  12. Works with department and program staff to increase their communication efforts;
  13. Assists with special projects & initiatives which increase service to members & regional development;
  14. Assists with budget preparation;
  15. Oversees social media sites, including preparation, monitoring, and/or approving broadcast messages

Other Important Duties and Responsibilities: Perform other duties and responsibilities as required or assigned.

Salary:  Starting at  $51,000


Must have comprehensive knowledge of TCOG programs, functions, policies, and procedures; and have strong interpersonal and communication skills. Must be proficient in editorial and design concepts and practices and in the use of a computer and applicable software, especially Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Cloud (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, etc.), and the WordPress CMS platform. Must have knowledge and skill in the use of social media. Must have ability to research and prepare information; to design communication plans and materials related to the goals and priorities of the agency; to compose content for the Web; to prepare copy and scripts; to design broad communications plans and materials; to communicate effectively; and to plan, assign, and/or supervise the work of others.


Bachelor’s degree in journalism, public information, communications, or media relations plus at least two years of progressively responsible experience related to marketing or brand development is preferred. Equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities for the position may be considered in lieu of degree.
